Lightning strike recorder commissioning instructions:

1. Records search

In the dormant state, randomly press the ”function” key once to wake up, two characters in the lower left corner of the display, ”y” when it means ”year, month and day”, ”H” when it means ”hours, minutes and seconds”. When ”y” means ”year, month and day”, ”H” means ”hour, minute and second”. A lightning strike record is displayed in two frames, the first frame displays ”number of lightning strikes“ and ”year, month and day”, which is displayed for 5 seconds; the second frame displays "number of lightning strikes" and "hours, minutes and seconds"; the second frame displays "number of lightning strikes" and "hours, minutes and seconds". The second frame displays "number of lightning strikes" and "hours, minutes and seconds" for 5 seconds, cycling through the display twice. Before dormant, press "down-" key to turn page forward, press "up+" key to query backward, no operation within 20 seconds, enter dormant state. If the number of lightning strikes is 0, there is no date and time display.

2. Clock calibration

In hibernation state, press the ”school time” key screen is awakened, the lower left corner of the screen ”y” is the ”year, month and day”, and the ”year” number is flashing; you can use the ”up +” or ”down -“ key to enter the screen, the "year" number is flashing; you can use the "up +" or "down -" key to enter the screen. The number of "year" is flashing; you can press "up+" or "down-" key to enter the "year".

Press the ”Calibrate” key to correct the ”Day of the month”. Press ”Calibrate Time” key to calibrate ”month and day”. After that, press the ”Calibration” key again, it will go to the second frame to calibrate the "hours, minutes and seconds", after the calibration is completed, press the "Calibration" key again, it means that the calibration is completed.

3. Counting Zero

Lightning strike recorder can store 5000 records, when the record is almost full to zero the recorder, or to set a new record start time, also need to record the recorder ”zero” operation. In the dormant state, press the “zero” key, in order to avoid misuse, the first time you press the “zero” key for three seconds, and then the second time you press and hold down the “zero” key for two seconds after the validity.” After "Zero" is pressed, the lightning strike record is no longer found, and the lightning strike count is displayed as 0.

  • Periodically check for loose wiring and normal indicator lights.
  • Clean the housing to ensure good ventilation and heat dissipation.
  • For areas with frequent lightning strikes, professional inspection is recommended every 1-2 years.

🚨 Common Troubles and Handling

impunityPossible causesRecommendations for handling
Red light always onLightning protection module failure/wiring sequence errorCheck the wiring or contact technical support immediately
Remote Alarm TriggerAbnormal wiring or module failureCheck the wiring or contact technical support
No display on loggerThe built-in lithium battery of the logger is low or exhausted (3-5 years of normal use). Please disassemble the small box behind the front cover panel of the case, replace the battery (CR123A) and the display lights up, if there is no change, please contact technical support. Note: Please disconnect all mains power before operation, be sure to confirm with an electric pen or multimeter.

Q1:What voltage systems and occasions is this lightning protection box suitable for?
A: Suitable for AC 50/60Hz, 380V and below TN-S, TN-C-S, TT, IT and other common low-voltage distribution systems. Widely used in communication base stations, data centers, industrial control, intelligent buildings, transportation facilities and other occasions that require reliable lightning protection.

Q2: What is the meaning of T1+T2 protection? What is the difference with single level protection?
A: T1 level protection for direct lightning or part of the direct lightning current (10/350μs waveform), strong current-discharging capability; T2 level protection for induced lightning and operational overvoltage (8/20μs waveform), low residual voltage. The combination of the two can realize a more comprehensive protection coverage, which is more adaptable to the multi-level lightning threat environment than single-level protection.

Q3: How does the “fail-away” function of the lightning protection box work?
A: When the performance of the lightning protection module deteriorates due to prolonged use or abnormal lightning strikes, the internal thermal release device will automatically act to disconnect the faulty module from the circuit, and at the same time the red indicator light will be on to indicate the need to replace the module, so as to avoid affecting the safety of the system power supply.

Q4: Can lightning strike recorder data be exported or viewed remotely?
A: This recorder supports local query and zero, if you need to view or export data remotely, you can access the monitoring system through the optional communication module (such as RS485 or dry contact signal) to realize remote status monitoring and record management.

Q5: Do I need additional back-up protection devices for the installation?
A: Yes, in order to protect the system safety, it is recommended to install D-type 25A~32A special backup protection air switch at the front of the lightning protection box, which is used to quickly cut off the circuit in case of lightning protector failure.

Q6: Does the lightning protection box have wear and tear without lightning strikes? Do they need to be replaced periodically?
A: Under normal grid environment, the lightning protection box itself has very little loss and does not need to be replaced regularly. However, its protection performance will gradually decline with the use of time and the number of lightning strikes, it is recommended to carry out a professional inspection once a year, and timely replacement when the indicator light turns red or the system alarm.

Q7: Can it be installed outdoors? What is the protection level?
A: Can not be used directly in the open air, the product shell protection level of IP55, although with the ability to prevent dust and low water, but in the outdoor use must be made to prevent rain measures, such as installation under the awning.

Q8: What happens when the 5000 records stored in the logger are full?
A: When the record is full, the earliest history record will be overwritten by the new record. The user can reset the counter with a “clear” operation when the record is nearly full.
