Product Description:

OMRDON composite series-connected power surge protector (SPD) is a high-performance surge protection device designed for AC/DC power distribution system. Applicable to program-controlled switches, security monitoring, broadcasting systems, communications equipment, fire systems, industrial control systems and other scenarios, can effectively defend against overvoltage and overcurrent caused by lightning strikes and power grid surges, to protect the long-term stable operation of equipment. Compact structure, easy to install, suitable for all kinds of harsh environments, is the preferred solution for lightning protection of terminal equipment.

This series of lightning protection adopts composite balanced protection circuit, with differential mode (line to line) and common mode (line to ground) full-mode protection capability, low residual voltage, fast response (≤ 25ns), especially suitable for frequent lightning activity, voltage fluctuation sensitive outdoor or industrial places. The housing is made of aluminum alloy, supports optional 35mm rail mounting, and is equipped with LED status indicator to show the operation status of the lightning protector in real time.

Wired correctly:Input (IN) is connected to the power supply side, and output (OUT) is connected to the device side; reverse connection is strictly prohibited.

Installation near you:Get as close as possible to the front of the protected equipment for better protection.

Reliable grounding:Grounding resistance ≤ 4Ω, grounding wire cross-sectional area ≥ 2.5mm².

Operation with electricity is prohibited:Installation and replacement must be done without power.

Regular inspections:It is recommended that inspections be carried out at least once a year, and indicator lights found to be abnormal should be replaced in a timely manner.

Q: How do I choose the right type of lightning protector for my equipment?
A: Selection is mainly based on the voltage type of the equipment power supply system (AC AC/DC) and the rated operating voltage. Please check the equipment power supply parameters and select the model corresponding to the voltage level (e.g. 220VAC, 24VDC, etc.). If you have any questions, please provide the details of the equipment power supply and our technical support will recommend it for you.

Q: Can alternating current (AC) and direct current (DC) models be mixed?
A: Absolutely not. There is a fundamental difference in the internal circuit design and protection components between the AC model and the DC model, and mixing them will lead to failure of the protection function, or even cause equipment damage or safety accidents. Please be sure to select the model strictly according to the type of system voltage.

Q: What does it mean when the LED indicator on the lightning protector does not light up?
A: The indicator does not light usually indicates that the core protection components of the lightning protector has been subjected to excessive surge impact and deterioration failure, the protection function has been lost, at this time, the equipment can still be energized to run, but there is no lightning protection, it is recommended to immediately arrange for the replacement of the new lightning protector to ensure the safety of the equipment. However, it is also possible that the LED indicator itself is damaged, please contact us to return to the factory to investigate the cause.

Q: Do lightning protectors need to be replaced periodically? How long is the life span?
A: Lightning protection belongs to the “expendable” protective devices, its life depends on the environment of the frequency and intensity of surge events, and there is no fixed replacement age.

We recommend:

1) Incorporate routine inspections prior to the annual thunderstorm season;

2) An abnormal indicator light is detected;

3) The equipment or system becomes abnormal after a thunderstorm.

Any of these conditions should be inspected and considered for replacement.

Q: What happens if the input (IN) and output (OUT) are reversed during installation?
A: Our design scheme is a two-level protection, the first level of coarse protection, the second level is fine protection, graded protection, step by step current drain, so as to get a lower residual voltage. Reversed input-output connection, although it can be energized normally, will result in the lightning arrester not being able to perform the designed protection performance. In the event of a surge, the equipment will be directly subjected to a greater impact, very easy to damage, even with the lightning protector is also damaged. When installing the lightning protector, please make sure to refer to the terminal markings or the instruction manual for the correct wiring.

Q: Can the ground wire be connected to the equipment enclosure or the nearest metal water pipe?
A: 1) It can be connected to the equipment enclosure, provided that the enclosure is well grounded. However, it is recommended that the grounding connection be made to a standard grounding bus or grounding grid in the building or equipment room to ensure that the grounding channel impedance is sufficiently low (≤4Ω).

        2) It is not recommended to connect to the metal water pipe, connected to a non-standard grounding point, grounding resistance is often too large, resulting in lightning current can not be quickly discharged, the protection effect is greatly reduced, or even more dangerous.

Q: What does the voltage protection level (Up) in the product parameters mean? How does it affect me?
A: The Up value refers to the peak residual voltage at both ends of the lightning protector when the nominal discharge current is applied. In principle, the lower the Up value means the lower the overvoltage applied to the protected equipment, the better the protection effect. However, this is not a certainty, Up value shall not be lower than the nominal operating voltage of the equipment, to choose Up value lower than the equipment voltage rating of the lightning protector, is the key to effective protection.

Q: Are the products suitable for photovoltaic solar systems or electric vehicle charging posts?
A: Yes. For the DC side of the PV (e.g. 12V, 24V, 36V systems), the corresponding direct current (DC) model can be selected. For the AC power supply side of the charging pile, AC models such as 220VAC can be selected. For these specific application scenarios, it is recommended to provide detailed system parameters so that we can confirm the best selection and installation plan.

Q: Why do I need to add a short-circuit protection device (e.g., air openers, fuses) to the front of the lightning protector?
A: This is an important safety measure. When the lightning arrester is finally short-circuited internally due to deterioration, it generates a continuous industrial frequency continuation current, which may cause overheating or even fire. The air switch or fuse at the front end can quickly cut off the circuit when a short-circuit occurs, providing a safe backup protection.
